Basswood, known scientifically as Tilia americana, originates from North America. It is an American Lime with a light colour ranging from creamy-white to pale brown.
Basswood is soft, light in weight, and has a fine, even texture due to its uniform growth. It is an excellent choice for carving, framing, and other fine woodworking projects.
Basswood works extremely easily and finishes smoothly. It takes nails and screws well, glues satisfactorily, and can be stained and polished without difficulty.
This timber is non-durable and best suited for interior applications.
